Great Ideas
The first step to getting your community in motion, is to identify one or more local leaders or champions. Build a committed team to start making changes that will help create a more active community.
There are several ways to start making changes:
- Create Partnerships. Community change cannot be achieved by one person or a single delivery system. Partnerships will reduce duplication and make the best use of available resources. They will also help create a sense of co-operation within the community.
- Build on success. Use programs and activities that are already working in the community. Finding out what is working successfully in your schools, workplaces, seniors’ centers, churches and community organizations and build on them. Promote Workplaces in motion and Healthy Schools in motion
- Create the vision. Set clear, achievable goals for your team to encourage commitment from participants and focus your efforts and resources. Promote and share your vision with the whole community.
- Evaluate. Design a way to measure the goals you set and evaluate as you go along to see what’s working and what needs to improve or change.
- Plan for the future. Include short and long term goals in your plan. Short term goals give encouragement along the path to longer term goals.
