Get "in motion" and  Stay 'in motion'

Most people know that being physically active is important to their health yet only half of Manitobans get enough physical activity to gain those health benefits.

Check to see if your workplace is a registered Workplace in motion

There are often real or perceived barriers that prevent people from becoming more physically active.  Identify your challenges and then plan ways to overcome them to make changes to your daily routine.  Look for ways to build physical activity into your day

Here are some common barriers to physical activity and some possible solutions:

Lack of time

  • Add Physical Activity in small batches of at least 10 minutes
  • Make time for physical activity a priority - schedule it into your calendar
  • Monitor your daily activities and identify a 30 minute time slot where you could be more active
  • Try less structured activities that require less planning

Lack of energy or motivation

  • Determine when you have the most energy and try to be active then
  • Remember that regular physical activity will give you energy
  • Plan ahead - make an appointment
  • Invite a friend or colleague to be active with you
  • Find an activity that you enjoy, try new activities and add variety
  • Tracking your physical activity helps you to set goals and monitor your progress
  • Us psychological motivators -post sticky notes to remind yourself of what you want to accomplish
